Iván Böszörményi-Nagy
Dear Association Members,
It has been 100 years today (May 19, 1920) since Iván Böszörményi Nagy, the prominent figure of the family therapy movement was born.
The contextual approach elaborated by him has spread all over the world making his name known in the widespread circles of family therapists. We are proud of our compatriot and grateful that he paid special attention to train the Hungarian family therapists and that he contributed so much to the development of our association. Let us remember and celebrate him this day wishing that his lifework continues to live for several hundred years on, and it also helps the future generations of therapists. Quoting his words,
‘The arch of relational truth is built throughout several generations: the basis is adequate parental care which is being paid back towards the next generation. If this arch breaks somewhere, relational untruth is created, destroying the health of both – the relations and the people living in it.’ We, Hungarian family therapists received much from Iván Böszörményi Nagy so became engaged to restore untruthful family relations.
The senior trainers of our association pay their tribute to Böszörményi Nagy Iván with their brief, personal commemorations and family photos will bring to life the important events of his life.
